Kids love peanut butter, especially when combined with jelly to make sandwiches, or when used for baking and cooking. But peanut butter has a few other uses. One I just discovered today.
I used to use peanut butter to remove gum from my children’s hair when they were little. Yes — gum! I have no idea why it works so well. Maybe the combination of the peanuts and oil diffused the stickiness of the gum.
Today I was washing a brand new baking pan, because the sticker left behind traces of major goo. I tried soaking it in dishwashing liquid, but the stuff didn’t budge. Then I decided to use Soft Scrub — same thing, nada. I tried Comet and a bit of dishwashing liquid and still — nothing. Finally, I remembered how peanut butter removed the gum and decided to try it. I spread a good amount of peanut butter on the goo and began to rub it in. Little by little, it lifted the sticky residue. I repeated the process about three times until all traces were gone.
So next time a price tag has left sticky residue on a solid surface, break out the peanut butter and rub-a-dub-dub.
